Managing your account

Your account

Once you have logged in, you see your name, or a profile icon. Click your name/icon and under it, you will can access your Profile, Checked out items, Requests, Fines, Library cards, Saved searches and Saved items (favourites). If you have logged in by using Haaga-Helia user ID (Haka login method), make sure that you add your library card to your account. Then, you can see your personal details, you are able to make requests, and you can renew your loans etc.

Account settings

  • You can manage and update email address where you want HH Finna to send scheduled alerts about certain topics (saved searches).
    - N.B. Pick up notifications, due date reminders and overdue messages are sent to the email address maintained in the library's customer register. That information is shown on section: Personal details maintained by the library.
  • You can create an Alias for commenting and rating materials on HH Finna.
  • You can choose which campus library is your preferred pick up location. This selection shows preselected on the form, when you are placing a request.

Change PIN code

Personal details maintained by the library

  • Here you can see your personal information in library's customer register.
  • Library sends all notifications, due date reminders and messages to email address which is shown here.
  • You can update your contact information and hold identifier on HH Finna. Email address is changed, as soon as you click button "Save Personal Information". You can update your phone number, address or hold identifier via the form on HH Finna. Send the request to the library. When the change request has been accepted, you can see the updated information on your account.

Importing and exporting your data

You can export and import favourites lists from one Finna interface to another. For example, if you have favourites on Finna.fi, you can download those favourites to HH Finna or vice versa.

Deleting HH Finna account

If you delete your account in Finna, you will lose saved searches, favourites and alerts for new items. Please be aware that your library card is still activated and you are still a customer of Haaga-Helia library. If you want to terminate your library card permanently (e.g. your library card is lost or stolen), please contact the library.

Checked out items, renewing loans

  • Your checked out items are arranged by due date. You can use Sort functionality to show checked out items in various ways.
  • You can select which items to renew or renew all items.
  • You can't renew an item, if a) some other customer has requested the material, b) you have fines 15 euros or more, c) you have reached the maximum in renewals, or d) the item is not allowed to renew (e.g. short loan etc.).

If you can’t see your loans, there are two possible reasons: 1) You have not yet linked a library card with your account. You can do it in the Library Cards tab in your account. 2) You have received a new card after losing the old one or you have asked the library customer service to reset your PIN code to default. Your card information has to be updated. You can do it either

  • on Your Account – Library Cards > Change PIN code OR
  • on Your Account – Library Cards > Update card details OR
  • by Connecting your card again.

Loan history

  • You can see you previous loans, if you have chosen to save the loan history on your Profile.
  • If the item is removed from library collections, information about your loan is also remowed from your loan history.

Requests

  • You need to login first to place requests.
  • Open the availability view of the material you are interested, and click the button Place a Request.
  • You can choose how long your request is valid; the default time is 2 years.
  • Select the pick up location.
  • Submit Request. Then you'll see a message whether the request is successful or not (e.g. if you have too much fines.) If the request is successful, you will receive an email notification when the reserved title is ready for collection.

  • On Your Account - Requests you will see your requests, your pick up location and your queue position. You will receive an email notification when the reserved title is ready for collection. The last day when you need to pick up the material is mentioned on the email and it is shown on your account.
  • Please, cancel unnecessary requests. 1) You can cancel a request on HH Finna until you receive a pick up notice. 2) When the requested material is already available for pickup, you can ask to cancel it by contacting the library.
  • N.B. A fee of 2 euros / request is charged for reserved material that is not picked up or cancelled on time.

Fines

  • On Fines you can see your fines and fees and reasons for them.
  • If you have over 15 euros of fines, your lose your borrowing privileges. Borrowing privileges are returned once the overdue material is returned and the fines paid.
  • You can pay fines for all your loans. However, remember to try to renew the loan either a) before the payment, or b) after you have paid online. But if there is a request for the material, renewal is not possible.
  • Minimum payment online is 0,50 €.
  • Fines can be paid online via HH Finna or at Haaga-Helia's Pasila campus library's customer services. If there are problems on online payment, contact the library as soon as possible.

Library cards

On the section Library cards click button Connect library/parallel card and you can link different library cards to your HH Finna account (type library name, library card number, PIN code).
N.B. At the moment you can add only Haaga-Helia's, Laurea's or Metropolia's library card to your HH Finna account.

  • If you have created your library card on Haaga-Helia's Tuudo mobile app, add the Tuudo library card on HH Finna, after you have logged in using Haaga-Helia ID (Haka login method).
  • For example, if you have activated your HelMet-card at Haaga-Helia library, then that card is your Haaga-Helia library card.

When you graduate or finish your studies, Haaga-Helia's Tuudo application is not available anymore. You can't see your library card via Tuudo. You need to follow the instructions below before graduation.

  1. Write down your library card number and save it.
  2. Return all loans and pay your library fines, if you have any.
  3. You can continue using library services even after graduation. You need to use either HH Finna’s mobile library card (login with your library card number and PIN code) or get a plastic card from the library.

Saved searches, search history and alert schedule

  • The searches you are doing during a session are saved to Search history, which you can find on top navigation, Search functions. Or if you're logged in, the searches are shown temporarily on your account: Saved Searches - Recent Searches.
  • If you want to save searches, click Save. After the session you will find these important searches on Saved Searches.
  • You can delete saved searches/search results or empty the whole search history by clicking Delete.
  • Alerts: Once you have saved the search, you can also set an alert to notify you when new materials compatible with your search have been published. Alerts can be scheduled to be sent weekly or daily or every 30 days. Scheduled alerts are sent to your email.

Saved items and favourites

  • You can add records to your account's favourites using the pin-shaped button on the search results page or on the record page.
  • At first, the records are saved to All favourites. You can move or copy selected records into new lists.
  • On Favourites, you can
    • - sort your records by title, author, date, content type, and add tags and description if you like.
    • - create and delete your own public or private favourites lists.
    • - name your lists and move individual records from one list to another.
  • You can share your lists or records, export records to reference management tools, such as EndNote, RefWorks etc., or email records.
